I can’t believe I’m doing this but I have signed up for the ONE ROOM CHALLENGE SPRING 2020 event! I’m SUPER excited yet nervous since this is my first time participating and I actually had a cold feet last minute as I felt intimidated by the amazing designers that take part in this event; moreover I had doubts about the overall success of this project given the lack of funds and resources and the very fact that I literally have 0 DIY skills! But then I gave myself a pep talk and finally committed to it and now as I write this post, I feel so proud of myself for actually following through with this. If you have similar feelings like me, just know that everyone starts small and there is enough space in this world for everyone’s creativity to flourish- in their own way.
You must be thinking I’m insane to be taking on more projects on top of my already heavy workload as a full time account manager. But I find decorating and organising to be therapeutic and during this testing times as I am stuck at home in quarantine due to the Covid 19, this project might just give me the creative high that can actually help improve my mental health!
So for this challenge I’ll be updating our guest room which by the way is missing a door (yup, you read it right!) and currently being used as a dumping ground for random things and the adjacent bathroom (that’ll give you a nightmare). We have moved to this 50 year old house in Fall 2019 which needs to be updated top to bottom but as we can’t afford any major reno/expenses right now, I’m going to try my best to give the room a face lift that it badly needs without costing me a fortune! I hope to achieve that by re-purposing old furniture along with some additional low cost or thrifted decor pieces. For the guestroom, I’m thinking of a bright, vintage, off white-peach tone theme and for the bathroom I just want to brighten the room with white wall and modern accent pieces.
Here are some of the photos of the room below.
To Do List to Transform the Guestroom:
- Clear out the guestroom
- Caulk the crown mouldings that are in a very bad condition
- An accent rug
- A night stand
- A lamp for the night stand
- An accent chair and/or bench
- Wall Art
- Accent plants
- Install a door
- Possibly a light fixture? (If I can order it online)
- Set up the room
Here’s a mood board I created for the inspiration for the guest room.
For the bathroom I plan to update the following:
- Paint the walls off white
- Paint the vanity pure white
- Change the vanity handles
- Change the mirror
- Add a dramatic rug
- Add a statement wall art
- Add a few gold accessories
I am stoked to see how I tackle this mini project and see my own progress as well as of other participants’ over the next 8 weeks
You can read all other One Room Challenge participants’ posts here.
Wish me luck!
