I am not your usual lifestyle blogger because I find seasonal decorating wasteful. There I said it, but don’t hate me yet. Let me explain. Now having said that I still decorate for different seasons as long as I can re-use and repurpose old things that I already have at home instead of going to buy something new every year. For the same reason, I do not decorate with a real Christmas tree and I‘ve been using a faux one because I can use it year after year and I do the same for my own religious holiday, Eid; I often decorate with my daughter’s old birthday party supplies for Eid and challenge my creativity that way and I find it super fun and that’s the foundation of my home decor style- it has to be low-waist and it has to be budget friendly.
Although I have never decorated for fall before but this year has been an odd one, being quarantined at home I have felt a stronger pull towards design, art and anything creative which truly has been so therapeutic for me during these tough times. So I took the punch and decided to decorate for fall this year. And since I have never decorated for this season before, I didn’t really have any decorative pieces lying around the house so I had to buy a few things. And when I made those purchases I made sure I can reuse them for the upcoming years and of course I bought the most inexpensive yet cute looking stuff! I like to keep my decor simple and semi minimalistic so I only got a few things:
– Few large faux pumpkins
– 1 bag of small pumpkins
– 1 bag of acorns and pine cones
Everything else that’s on the table is what I already had at home:
– Table runner
– Dinner set – Plates, bowls
– Wine glasses
– Cutlery
– Large white candles
I painted my pumkins white and used Jaci Daily’s dirt technique to give it an aged look but you can buy them white and skip that step. The rest of the decor that’s on the table are things that me and my daughter collected during our nature walk; so all the pretty dry leaves and branches and even the dry flower in the centre piece were all FREE and that word is music to my ears.
Me and my daughter had so much fun collecting these pieces and then putting them together and to me that’s precious memories that I will cherish for years to come.
I have re-used those faux pumkin and acorns to decorate around the house as well so come back to see a fall home tour in the next few weeks and I have also done a thanksgiving dinner with absolutely zero cooking this year and I blogged about that here, if you haven’t already go check it out. You can also shop everything I share on my Instagram feed about my home here.
Did my low-waste, budget tablescape inspire you to do the same this year? How do you decorate for each season? Would love to hear about your style in the comments!
Love,
Nawrin
