I used to be a huge decor/party planning fanatic but as my child was growing older and started becoming more demanding, my enthusiasm for such things quickly died down. I have thrown some pretty pinterestesque parties in the past which I take huge pride in but honestly sometimes it’s just not physically possible. So on my daughter’s 5th birthday, I just booked a play area and let the party place take care of the decor and food and threw a super basic shimmer and shine themed party. My aesthetic side cringed so much looking at the setup but I also never felt so relaxed before and after the party because the party place people even took care of the clean-up! Say what! Jackpot! So that’s what I was planning to do for my daughter’s future birthdays as now she is older and have own (questionable) decor preferences which I have to abide by lol.
But seriously jokes apart, once a decor lover, always a decor lover right? So when I thought, I’m done with this party planning life, lock-down happened and suddenly I had so much mental clarity to be creative again and most importantly had the time to engage in such activities. And co-incidentally this happened during Ramadan; so I went full on crafting, decorating for Ramadan and Eid with my daughter and honestly I felt alive again! Needless to say my daughter had a blast too!
Long story short, I went all out decorating for Eid today and ended up setting up a quick Eid brekfast/lunch tablescape with EVERYTHING I ALREADY HAD AT HOME. Emphasizing on that because during our time in quarantine, I took extra caution by NOT bringing any non-essential items to my house so it’s really important that you be very careful as well. Do what works for you but don’t go out because you wanted to decorate last minute, I beg you, please don’t do that! Order things online in advance and bring them home with proper caution in future.
Things used for the wall decor:
- Eid Mubarak banner
- Some white and gold balloons
- Some plain triangle dual color banner
- Some gold stars
- Some gold and white decorative paper fans
Things used for the tablescape:
- An old table runner and old table mats
- My everyday use plates
- Some plastic decorative plates that I saved from previous parties
- Some old champagne glass
- 2 old cake stands
- Some green leaves that I already had at home
- A flower vase I had at home
- 2 Candles
All of these items were saved from previous parties I had thrown before or things from my everyday use. You can use whatever items you have at home but hopefully this setup can inspire you to be cost effective when decorating for an event.
