Can’t believe Ramadan is almost over and we’re already prepping for Eid!! Ramadan this year was nothing like the usual, being quarantined while working from home/homeschooling/fasting was a challenge but I still found some free mental space to engage in Ramadan/Eid crafts with my child which I am so proud of. Being a full time working mom, I found little to no time to carry out such activities in the past when Ramadan used to fly by between commuting, working, etc. So this year observing the entire Ramadan from home definitely was a blessing despite all the chaos that’s going on in the world. Also as an immigrant Muslim, living in a non-Muslim majority country, I try a little harder to instil my traditional values into my child and doing these Ramadan/Eid activities is merely an attempt for that.
During Ramadan, I did a few activities with my daughter, one of them was making a DIY Ramadan calender, you can find the detailed post for that here. We also decorated the house for Ramadan and did a countdown to Eid and now that we are 2 days away from Eid, I thought some Eid Crafts would be fitting. And this craft was so fun that my daughter already asked me to do it again. Also even though I did the craft for Eid, it’s actually very versatile and can be done for other religious or cultural occasions as well.
So for this PAINTED ROCK EID ACTIVITY, you don’t need to spend any $$$ and can use things found in your backyard and around the house.
Things required for the craft:
- Some flat(ish) rocks
- Some old, broken crayons
- White paint and brush
- Baking tray and foil
Step by step process:
Disclaimer: This activity requires adult supervision the entire time as it involves handling hot items.
- Collect 10 flat rocks and wash them with soap and dry them with some wash cloth.
- Once dried, place them over a baking sheet that is wrapped with foil paper.
- Then pop the tray full of rocks in the oven and “bake” for 15 mins in 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Once hot, take it out of the oven and place it on a cooling mat.
- Execute the next steps with extreme caution as the rocks need to be hot for this craft to work.
- Now take each crayon and carefully rub them on the hot rocks and see the magic happen! This specific part was my daughter’s most favourite!
- And continue on with other coloured crayons until all the rocks are covered with beautiful colours and here really let your kid free to use his/her imagination and just let them have fun!
- Once painted, let the rocks cool down and then draw the letters to spell EID MUBARAK on them and then you’re done!
- You can also write, Happy Easter, Merry Christmas or simply write words like kindness, love, happiness, etc. and once done use them as an outdoor decoration by placing them by the entrance.
Hope you enjoyed this activity and if you end of doing it with your kids, don’t forget to drop me a comment here or tag me on my instagram.
