Those who know me, know very well how I feel about seasonal decor and to what extent I go to avoid waste. For that reason I like to reuse and repurpose my old decor as much as possible and also the frugal mom in me just can’t justify spending too much for holiday decor especially when it’s a holiday that we don’t celebrate. Yes we don’t celebrate Christmas but I go all out decorating for this Holiday because I never pass up a chance to celebrate life.
My main motto for decorating is to be on budget and for that reason I love mixing thrifted stuff as well as inexpensive dollar store stuff but these things can look cheap and tacky sometimes because seriously you do get what you pay for. But there’s definitely an inexpensive way to transform those tacky looking decorations into (almost) high end ones!! And you wouldn’t believe it, I have transformed a $4 dollarama wreath and a $4 dollarama garland using some leaf stems (also from dollarama lol) that cost me a total of $6! If you want to see how, then keep reading!
Before After
So basically all I did is cut up the $2 leaf stems that I got from dollar store and some eucalyptus branches that I got from Amazon and stuck the individual leaves and branches into the garland/wreath and kept going until all the gaps were filled up. And THAT IS ALL! I didn’t use any tools or any other materials like pin, glue or anything because the garland and the wreath have wire inside each branch so it’s very easy to secure those loose leaves into the wires. Here’s how the leaves look like all cut up as below:
I wanted to mention that you can do this without spending even a dollar and that would make the transformation even more high end and realistic looking and that is if you use real leaves instead of faux ones to fill in the gaps but as a full time working mom, I barely have time to shower so I could not take the burden of maintaining real greenery or else I would definitely go for a real cypress garland any day!! But your girl is lazy AF so that’s that!
And that is all you need to do to get a high end (ish) looking garland or a wreath! Easy peasy! Tell me, are you going to try this? If you do, don’t forget to come back and comment here to let me know!
Now let’s enjoy some more photos of the finished products!
The deer, the little trees in the above photo are all from dollar store as well and they were $1.50 each but it was clear and I painted them white. I also got the little house from a thrift store and then painted that white as well!
And here’s the final look of the wreath!
