Welcome to week 6 of One Room Challenge. I’m posting my upgrade on here after a 2 week hiatus because my heart was heavy from the recent world events and last week focusing on anything other than the Black Lives Matter movement seemed gravely wrong. I also wanted to thank the ORC team for cancelling week 5 update to “pause” and take the time to reflect and learn and show solidarity to the BLM movement. It was truly a commendable step.
To be honest, the progress has been quite slow since my week 3 update.
Here’s what I accomplished by week 3:
- Clear out the guestroom (work in progress)
Caulk the crown mouldings that are in a very bad conditionAn accent rugA night standA lamp for the night stand- An accent chair and/or bench
- Wall Art
- Accent plants
Install a door- Possibly a light fixture?
- Set the room up
And by week 6 I have completed the following:
- Cleared out the guestroom.
- Got the accent chair, the bench, and the plant.
- Because of the current situation, I decided to skip the light fixture.
- Somewhat set up the room but I will do the final reveal on week 8.
As of week 4, my plan was to finish the guestroom which I did (to some extent) and move on to the bathroom. I started working on the bathroom last weekend and so far this is what I’ve completed:
Paint the walls off whitePaint the vanity pure white- Change the vanity handles
Change the mirror- Add a dramatic rug
- Add a statement wall art
- Add a few gold accessories
Painting the bathroom and the vanity was the biggest job for this next step of the project so finishing it, was a huge relief. I used the Dulux kitchen and bath paint for the wall. For the cabinet, I used BEHR Interior/Exterior Alkyd Satin Enamel, Melamine Finish Paint from Home Depot and didn’t need to use any primer for either. This was actually my first paint job and I am super proud of myself for that! 🙂 It truly gave me confidence to take up more DIY in the future. As I’ve mentioned in the beginning that I didn’t want to spend much for this project so even though the vanity in this bathroom is in a very bad condition (see before photos), I didn’t want to replace it instead I refreshed it with some paint. Next thing I did was changing the mirror. I repurposed the bathroom mirror in my kitchen and used a $40 mirror in the bathroom that I had picked up from Jysk before the quarantine.
Now that the painting is out of the way, I can focus on the small details over the next 2 weeks until the big reveal.
