I created this Ramadan Calendar while being quarantined at home during Covid 19 lock-down when most decor supply stores were closed. Though online orders were an option but I stayed away from ordering anything except essential items. So that’s the background behind this DIY and I wanted to mention it because I made this LITERALLY using everything that I already had at home.
Things required to make this calendar:
- 30 brown paper bags or any kind of envelopes. I was short of envelopes so I made some using a brown paper and a stapler. (see the hand made envelopes below in the photos)
- Some twine or yarn to hang the envelopes.
- 30 wood clothespins to hang the envelopes from the string.
- A large frame of any kind, I used an old mirror in this case. This is used as the main structure to hold the calendar upright.
How to put it together:
- Arrange and/or create all the envelopes and then number them 1 to 30.
- Fill each envelope with different Ramadan activities typed up in small pieces of papers or with small treats.
- Cut the strings in a size that is large enough to tie around the frame and tie them around the frame making 5 rows.
- Clip each envelope using the clothespin and attach it to the row of strings.
- Make sure to add only 6 envelopes in each row of strings so you will have a total of 5 rows with 6 envelopes in each.
It’s super easy, low waste and literally takes minutes to put together, hope you enjoyed this DIY. Please leave a comment below and let me know how you liked it or let me know if you end up re-creating it.
See you next time!
Updating this post in 2021 by adding a recreation of the same Ramadan Calendar from 2020 which I did with my daughter. This time, instead of using a mirror as a base, I used a poster board to keep the calendar light and mobile. The rest of the process is same but I used ready made brown paper bags this time instead of DIYing that. Everything else is exactly the same. Hope you like both versions.
